The owner, Clay Bonavito, has been involved with skydiving in Northern California for more than 25 years. Clay heads up our video department, and with over 9,000 camera jumps is certainly one of the most experienced camera flyers in this area. One type of parachuting is skydiving, which is recreational parachuting, also called sport parachuting. Those adventurous spirits daring enough to make their first skydive at Bay Area Skydiving are rewarded with the finest instructors available. New safety devices have in recent years come about and protect the skydiver should he become incapacitated or lose track of altitude. After World War II, an abundance of surplus parachutes and former soldiers with the courage to jump them for sport resulted in the growth of parachuting as a hobby. A typical jump involves individuals jumping out of aircraft (usually an airplane, but sometimes a helicopter or even the gondola of a balloon), travelling at approximately 4000 metres (around 13,000 feet) altitude, and free-falling for a period of time before activating a parachute to slow the landing down to safe speeds. Although most first time skydivers start with Tandem first jumps, our skydiving instructors will help you learn to skydive whether you start with tandem skydiving or AFF. After watching a short video you will be trained by your Tandem Master instructor to make your first skydive. By 1957, the first commercial skydiving schools began to appear, and the National Parachute Riggers-Jumpers, Inc., started in the 1930s, became the Parachute Club of America. PCA renamed itself the United States Parachute Association in 1967. In the US and in most of the western world skydivers are required to carry a second, reserve parachute which has been inspected and packed by a certificated parachute rigger (in the US, an FAA certificated parachute rigger). Many skydivers use an automatic activation device (AAD) that opens the reserve parachute at a safe altitude in the event of failing to activate the main canopy themselves. Skydiving Competitions began to develop and gain acceptance among the international air sports after World war II. Land right out in fron of our hanger - carpeted indoor packing, camping, RW, Freeflyers. So cancel any other plans, bring friends along and come skydive! The king air is among the fastest SKYDIVING AIRCRAFT to altitude there is with it's 14 jumper capacity & extra safety margins. First load usually takes off before 9AM, so be ready early Saturday morning!
